Tickets for Texas Broadcast News Awards Celebration on Sale Now!

- April 13 Event at The Domain, Austin Dining/Shopping Mecca

Tickets to the 2024 Texas Broadcast News Awards celebration on April 13 are on sale now and tickets are selling fast, so honorees should act quickly – especially if they want to reserve a full table at the event happening in the heart of The Domain, the popular dining and shopping mecca in North Austin.

Online ticket sales close April 6, just a week before Radio and TV journalists from across the Lone Star State come together to recognize the very best in Texas broadcast journalism celebrating local communities, holding the powerful accountable and keeping Texans safe and informed.

While 66 winners already have been unveiled, another 53 will be announced on-site, including the Carole Kneeland Award which honors the legendary TV journalist and news director who died of breast cancer in 1998 while serving the Austin market at KVUE-TV.

The Headliners Foundation also will be presenting its Charles E. Green Awards which recognize Texas Radio and TV journalists across six different categories.

A record number of entries – 40 percent more than last year – were submitted for the third annual presentation of the awards which were established as a successor to the long running program led by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters that was discontinued after its last awards ceremony in 2019.

The huge growth in the program prompted TAB to expand the panel of judges to ensure that Spanish and English language entries continue to be evaluated on an equal footing by bilingual judges as they have been since TAB began the awards program.

“As the only players in the media marketplace dedicated to serving individual local communities, Texas TV and Radio broadcasters are doing phenomenal work keeping their communities informed with daily reporting, powerful investigative journalism and political coverage,” said TAB President Oscar Rodriguez.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating these well-earned honors, so don’t delay – get your tickets now!”

Headliners Foundation Charles E. Green Awards

The Headliners Foundation’s Charles E. Green Awards, which include $9,000 in cash prizes, are presented in six categories, one of which is judged alongside winners of a similar category in the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors contest. The broadcast categories are as follows:

  • Best Television Reporter
  • Best Radio Reporter
  • Best Breaking News Report – TV
  • Best Breaking News Report – Radio
  • Best Investigative Report – TV
  • Best Multimedia/Digital Storytelling (Judging includes winners of the TAPME Best Online/Special Content Package category.)

Green award winners in each category receive a $1,000 cash prize and are presented with the beautiful Charles E. Green trophy at an annual recognition event held in the fall at the Headliners Club. Division winners in each category (who are not chosen as the Green Award winner) receive $500 from the Foundation. Up to five team members may share the cash award. A total of $9,000 will be awarded to the winning broadcasters.

The entries are evaluated by judges from across the nation who are recognized practicing or retired experts in news media or academia – journalists, producers, editors, journalism educators.

The Green Awards are part of the Foundation’s robust journalism awards program, which also includes the Showcase Awards for Enterprise and Innovation.

The Foundation awards a total of $33,000 annually to Texas’ best journalists.
