Scholarships
Texas broadcasters founded the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in 1973 to:
- fund scholarships for promising students at Texas colleges and universities
- ensure the development of qualified professionals for the industry
- foster a stronger relationship between higher education and broadcasters
- promote a greater understanding of ethics and societal responsibility
TBEF is a 501(c) (3) charitable corporation and contributions to the Foundation are considered tax deductible for income tax purposes.
TBEF annually provides eight $2,000 scholarships to Texas students.
Each applicant must:
- be a current TAB Student Member and/or currently attend a TABE Member School
- maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 point scale)
- submit a complete application by the deadline

- Senior at the University of North Texas
- Currently works at Texas State Networks
- Son of Roger Emrich (KRLD-AM Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Wants to be a sports broadcaster
Byron Randolph
Bonner McLane Scholarship
- Senior at the University of North Texas
- Volunteer for UNT Nightly News
- Wants to be an entertainment reporter
Jacqueline Baylon
Tom Reiff Scholarship
- Junior at Texas State University
- Works at KTSW-FM San Marcos
- Wants to be a news reporter
Suyun Hong
Lady Bird Johnson Scholarship
- Junior at the University of Texas at Austin
- Reporter for The Daily Texan and KVR news on UT campus
- Intern at CNN Atlanta
Rigo Montenegro
Vann Kennedy Scholarship
- Senior at the University of Texas-Pan American
- Currently works at KNVO-TV Rio Grande Valley
- Previously served as editor/videographer at KGBT-TV Rio Grande Valley
Jason Cannon
Wendell Mayes, Jr. Scholarship
- Sophomore at South Plains College
- Associate producer at KCBD-TV Lubbock
Aryn LaFosse
TBEF Scholarship (for Freshman or Sophomore)
- Freshman at Sam Houston State University
- Director of her high school broadcast team
- Wants to learn more about broadcast production
Nicolas Stephens

- DJ and news reporter at university station

- Board members serve three year terms
- Terms are staggered so three directors are up for election annually
- Elections are held during the annual TBEF membership meeting
- The annual meeting is typically held in July at the TAB Building in Austin
- Members may participate in person, by conference call or by proxy
